Regional AIDS Service Networks
(AIDSNETs)
Regional AIDS
Service Networks Information
The Washington State Legislature
established the 1988 AIDS Omnibus Bill. This bill created a
system to plan and deliver HIV services in Washington
State. The Washington Department
of Health funds and supports services through this system.
It is called the regional AIDS service networks, or
AIDSNETs. The system has six geographic regions. Each
region has a lead agency. This agency is the local health
jurisdiction in the largest county. It takes the lead on
finances and planning for the region.
Each
regional group works with their local health departments,
health districts and community organizations to do the
following:
-
Develop plans with the
community for HIV prevention and care services;
-
Provide HIV counseling,
testing and partner notification services;
-
Conduct disease control
activities as required by law;
-
Offer HIV prevention
education and other interventions, such as
needle-exchange programs, especially for those at
highest risk of disease; and
-
Provide services for people
who have HIV or are at high risk for becoming HIV-
infected.
