The Office of the Assistant Secretary supports the programs and services that make up the Community & Family Health Division. Internally, we work closely with division staff, other divisions, the Office of the Secretary, and Central Administration to fulfill this role. Externally, we partner with other state agencies, local health, and key stakeholder groups. This supports our mission to collaborate with our partners to enhance the health of individuals, families, and communities. We work to prevent disease and promote a healthy start, healthy choices, and access to services. Assistant SecretaryThe Assistant Secretary charts the course and guides the work of the division. This position is responsible for about 321 staff and a budget of approximately $609 million. The Assistant Secretary serves on the Senior Management Team and provides support and advice to the Secretary of Health. Chief AdministratorThe Chief Administrator leads the Office of the Assistant Secretary in support of the division’s program and service delivery and represents the Assistant Secretary in her absence. Executive SupportThese positions support the Assistant Secretary and the Chief Administrator. Health PromotionOffice of Health Promotion contributes to the health of individuals, groups and communities in Washington State by providing an integrated, evidence-based approach to preventive health. Five full-time and four part-time staff work in teams to help state and local public health programs with health education and marketing efforts. We use a coordinated school health approach, fund local chronic disease prevention efforts, and professional development. Some of our activities include: planning health promotion campaigns; consulting on strategies and interventions; designing publications; managing funding to local communities; conducting workshops; and developing websites. Our job is to help reach the right audience with the right message. We work across programs and divisions. Communications, Performance, and AccountabilityThis section includes our Strategic Communications Manager, our Performance Accountability and Communications Consultant, and the division’s Web Coordinator. They provide expert consultation to the division regarding communication products, our Web sites, performance management activities, and accountability efforts. Budget & OperationsThe Budget & Operations team oversees business activities and functions related to division-wide financial processes and operational procedures. This includes managing the agency contract for fiscal monitoring, the consolidated contract, and coordination of Medicaid administrative match. Local Community Health Leadership LiaisonThis function is staffed by an experienced Public Health Nurse and a Health Services Consultant. They work with local health partners to strengthen the public health system. In particular, they serve as the division’s link to the Community Health Leadership Forum, representing public health Nursing Directors statewide. Legislative and PolicyThis unit serves as consultants to the division on policy, legislative, and constituent relations issues. The Policy and Legislative Relations Manager focuses on substantive legislative and policy issues and coordination between CFH programs, offices, and other divisions. The Policy and Legislative Coordinator helps staff navigate the processes that support legislative activities, policy development (particularly rule-making), and public records disclosure. Office of the Assistant Secretary Information Services (OASIS) TeamThe Information Services team is made up of Information Technology staff who support the information needs of our various programs. This includes working in both the hardware and software arena. We also provide project management, analysis, design, coding, testing, implementation, and maintenance of various public health applications. |
