Preventing and managing diabetes in Washington State

Diabetes now affects more than 1.4 million Washington residents:

  • Approximately 345,000 people in Washington have diagnosed diabetes.

  • More than 155,000 people have undiagnosed diabetes.

  • Over 1.3 million people have pre-diabetes.

Diabetes is a serious, common and costly disease. Yet, it is controllable and – for type 2 diabetes – preventable. People who have diabetes have blood glucose (blood sugar) that is too high. Learn more about diabetes.
